Summer is in full swing, and it’s time to hit the surf and sand! If you are thinking of heading to the beach for the day, these are some of the best beaches to check out across Hampton Roads.
Oceanfront – Virginia Beach
Having everything from t-shirt shops, to bars, restaurants and more, this is the ideal beach for those who enjoy lots of action and excitement! The boardwalk is open year round with beach access from First Street to 41st Street, swimming, surfing (during certain hours), lifeguards, public parking and restrooms are available!
Buckroe Beach – Hampton
One of the largest beaches in Hampton Roads! There are open grassy areas for sitting, picnic shelters, a small stage pavilion for events, children’s playgrounds, kayaks and paddleboats for rent, lifeguards, public restrooms and parking! Also, if you have any questions, park rangers are on site year round to help you.
Huntington Park – Newport News
A great spot for families with young children! This is a small beach with shallow water that has a designated swimming area with life guards on duty from Memorial Day through Labor Day with a concession stand during the summer months. Right next door there is a fishing pier and a public boat ramp with dedicated parking.
Ocean View – Norfolk
This laid back location has three beaches to choose from! Sarah Constant Beach Park just east of 4th View Street, Community Beach Park and Ocean View Beach Park – all have public restrooms and life guards on duty.
Sandbridge – Virginia Beach
Peaceful and serene, Sandbridge is loved by those who enjoy surfing, kayaking, wind surfing and a quiet relaxing environment. The best way to access the beach is right off of Sandbridge Road.
Grandview Beach Preserve – Hampton
For those who enjoy nature, this is the ideal location for you! With 475 acres of natural beauty, this location is great for bird watching, beach combing and canoeing! Open year-round with free street parking.
Chic’s Beach – Virginia Beach
This a local favorite beach located just off of Shore Drive! With breathtaking views of the Chesapeake Bay, awesome sunsets and miles of soft sand, Chicks Beach is one of the premier places to soak up the sun, hit the waves or just kick back and relax with a good book.
